Use the checklist below to
make changes in specific areas of your business:
In
Toilet and
Washrooms
If your business
premises have large or old cisterns, it is a good
idea to put a water blockade, such as a 'Hippo'
into your cisterns so that they use less water per
flush. The hippo works by taking up space in your
toilet cistern so that it fills up with less water
and therefore reduces the amount of water each time
you flush: Request
a hippo.
Install low water-use
cisterns or dual flush cisterns when the opportunity
arises.
Install low water-use
or waterless urinals if/when the opportunity arises.
Fix all dripping
taps.
If possible have
spray taps or other low water-use taps installed.
Put up signs to
remind washroom visitors to turn off all taps after
use.
In
the Canteen/Kitchen
If there is a dishwasher
- make sure that it is turned on ONLY when it is
full. Always try to install a water efficient model
if possible. Put up a sign telling people this.
If you don't have
a dishwasher, it is a good idea to produce a rota
of people who will wash up at the end of each day
rather than everyone doing bits and pieces throughout
the day.
When boiling the
kettle it saves water and electricity if you only
boil the amount of water you need for immediate
use. Put up a sign telling people this.
Keep a jug or bottle
of tap water in the fridge for everyone to drink.
Not only will it taste delicious but it will save
everyone having to run the cold tap until the water
is cool - especially in warm weather.
Throughout
your Business Premises
