There has been much publicity
about leakage levels in the water industry - some
of it is rather misleading. Although ideally leakage
should be zero this is not economically feasible
for extensive systems of pipes and joints buried
in varying ground conditions for more than 100
years in some cases.
Currently
total leakage in the Company's area is estimated
at 70.7 litres per property per day (l/prop/d) and
is the lowest figure achieved by any company in
the UK. This leakage is occuring over a network
of 1,000 km of mains and 300,000 joints. It is estimated that 12% of all leakage occurs on the customer's supply pipe. If you have a leak on your supply pipe it is your responsibility to have the leak repaired promptly.

supply, leakage and the efficient use of water'
While
we will not allow our leakage record to deteriorate,
we believe it would be uneconomic to try to reduce
our current figure by very much more.
