Becoming or using 'Approved Plumbers'

The Water Fittings Regulations introduce 'Approved Contractors' (approved plumbers) who do work that complies with the Water Fittings Regulations. All 'Approved Plumbers' undertake to work to the terms of the Water Industry Approved Plumbers Scheme (WIAPS).

Peace of mind for customers
We advise our customers to use 'Approved Plumbers' for their plumbing work, for added peace of mind. Approved Plumbers are allowed to carry out some work on behalf of customers without giving notice, and where necessary they will give notice on customers behalf. Customers are assured that Approved Plumbers are bound to work in compliance with the Regulations and on completion they will provide customers and the Water Company with a certificate confirming that the work done complies with the Regulations.
Building a network of Approved Plumbers:
The current network of Approved Plumbers is small but growing, since the scheme was launched in April 2000. We advise you seek several quotes for work and to use a plumber who is a member of a National Trade Association ie Institute Of Plumbing (IOP), Association of Plumbing and Heating Contractors (APHC) etc. To find a local approved plumber visit the www.WRAS.co.uk site or telephone WRAS (01495 248454). The WRAS directory is currently small but growing.
More information and the application pack:
Plumbers wishing to become Approved Plumbers should ask the Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) on 01495 248454 for an application pack. Or you can click here to go to their web site. Please click on the link below to download a leaflet about how becoming 'Approved' can help plumbers.
