Always be suspicious. It is rare for water company
officials to turn up unannounced. In most cases
we will have made an appointment with you in advance.
|
 |
Even if you are expecting a call, still follow
the procedures below. |
 |
Look out of your window to see who's there first
and if you don't know who the person is, open the
window slightly and talk to them that way, rather
than opening your door. Alternatively, have a viewer
fitted in your front door so that you can take a
good look at who's there first. |
 |
Make sure your back door is locked if someone
knocks at your front door. Sometimes thieves work
together with one coming in the back way, while
the other keeps you talking at the front. |
 |
Do not be pressurised into opening your door.
Use a spy-hole or door chain while you satisfy yourself
that the caller is genuine. |
 |
Check for a uniform and a company van. |
 |
Ask to see their identification. If they do not
have any then refuse entry. |
 |
Ask to have any identification handed to you and
give it a close inspection. Close and lock the door
while you do this, and take your time. |
 |
Phone and check with the company they say they
are from. If they say they are from Tendring Hundred
Water Services Limited or the Water Board ring us
on 01206 399333 to confirm their identity. |
 |
If you are unsure or feel threatened in any way,
ask them to come back at a time convenient to you.
Ask a friend or neighbour to be present for when
they return. |
 |
Do not be afraid of upsetting a caller
by refusing him or her entry to your home. A genuine
caller will fully understand and be prepared to
return at your convenience. |
