There has been much publicity about leakage levels in the water industry. Although ideally leakage should be zero this is not economically feasible for extensive systems of pipes and joints buried in varying ground conditions for more than 100 years in some cases.
Currently total leakage in the Company's area is estimated at 71 litres per property per day (l/prop/d) and is the lowest figure achieved by any company in the UK. This leakage is occurring over a network of 1,000 km of mains and 300,000 joints. It is estimated that 12% of the leakage reported in the Tendring Hundred Water supply area (8.4 l/prop/day) occurs on the customers own pipes.

'Security of supply, leakage and water efficiency'
While we will not allow our leakage record to deteriorate, we believe it would be uneconomic to try to reduce our current figure by very much more.
If you have a leak on your external domestic supply we will normally repair this free of charge and make an allowance against your bill. Further information can be obtained by telephoning 01206 399333. This number can also be used to report any suspected leak. Alternatively fill in our Leakage Report Form. All suspect leaks reported are investigated and where confirmed are repaired promptly.
The householder has sole responsibility for any leaks which occur within or under a property. Clearly visible internal leaks or known leaks which are not isolated or repaired quickly will not qualify for a leakage allowance.
